STUDENT AFFAIRS MARKETING: IDENTITY

Student Affairs Marketing is a hub of nebulous ideas that would often collide and grow into something new, fun, and refreshingly collegiate.

We are creative and modern; we give voice to the students and offer an energetic reflection of the campus atmosphere and the culture of a youthful demographic. We bring a distinct point of view to each campaign we crank out, and with that comes unique, constantly-adjusting attitudes: when we’re recruiting students, we’re scholastic, intellectual, and full of technology; when there is a concert, we are avant-garde, loud, and sassy; when a restaurant opens, we are flavorful, enticing, and lip-smackingly good.

In a single day, we give voice to a (what some might call overwhelmingly) wide spectrum of departments under student affairs, such as Dean of Students, CSIL, Student Unions, Campus Health, Campus Recreation, Admissions, etc. But what do these have in common? Yes, the students. No matter how many over-the-hill academic professionals we e-mail on a daily basis, our one true audience is the student body – the class-juggling, coffee-chugging, party-hopping group of rookie adults that give life to this 378-acre land.

Internally, we’re a cohesive group of creative minds constantly searching for something fun to do; some of us focus on branding and marketing strategies to effectively combine the skills of our interior, web, and print designers, while others are focused on programming and logistic solutions. From recruiting the prospective slaves of academia to them throwing that cap and tassel in the air, we are there to guide them, with posters, pamphlets, websites, and the occasional Youtube videos. Hence, to accurately describe “who we are” in layman’s terms: we are “the look” and “the voice” of student affairs; with the flick of our magic wand, the campus just looks that much better, and college life can seem a bit less daunting for these young, easily-intimidated students.

Yes, we are the merchants of cool.
